Important Information Regarding School Transportation

Dear parents and guardians,

Transportation companies are presently experiencing service failures due to a shortage of bus drivers. They are working hard in order to prevent these situations from happening, but it is not always possible to quickly find a replacement at the last minute. The situation does not only affect Riverside School Board, but many other school boards and school service centres across the province. The problem has been growing for several years and currently, the labour shortage is particularly acute in this industry. Therefore, service failures may affect us greatly this year.

Our Transportation Services will be sending an email to parents’ morning and/or afternoon when a service failure occurs. We ask parents and guardians to please check their emails on a regular basis, mornings, and afternoons, in case no school transportation is available for their child.  We understand that the situation is not ideal and that parents will need to quickly find alternative solutions* to bring their child to school or pick up him or her from school. The circumstances are out of our control. However, school transportation companies and our transportation services are actively working on finding solutions.

We are grateful to the bus drivers that are presently working driving our routes! Bus drivers play an important role in the education network, and we appreciate their engagement.  Let’s continue to be courteous and considerate with them.

On that note, we would like to take this opportunity to invite retirees, available family members and friends to contact transportation companies if they are interested in giving a helping hand by becoming a school bus driver. You will find below the transportation companies we work with and the link to their website. Please feel free to reach out to them if you need more information.

*Please contact the school secretary if you have no other means of transportation when a service failure happens.

We thank you for your usual cooperation.
