We would like to inform you about a necessary modification to our school calendar. In light of the upcoming total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024, we have decided to replace one of the scheduled conditional pedagogical days in April to April 8, 2024.

Given our geographical location, we will be in the core of the solar eclipse at the end of the school day, when this extraordinary event will occur. Potential impacts on safety were carefully considered when the decision was made. Potential impacts on safety include, but are not limited to, the challenges posed when leaving school, travelling by bus or on foot, the visual risks of viewing an eclipse, and the well-being of our students, our staff, and the bus drivers. As such, we strongly believe that it is in the best interest of everyone in our community that this adjustment is made. This decision was approved by the Council of Commissioners on February 20, 2024.

As a result, April 8, 2024, will now be a pedagogical day and April 25, 2024, will be a regular school day (April 26, 2024, will now be a conditional pedagogical day*). Adult General Education (AGE) and Vocational Training (VT) centres will modify their student’s schedules for the afternoon, designating them as a study period.

Please note that we are actively working on securing necessary safety measures, as our daycare services will remain open on that day.

We understand that changes to the school calendar can be inconvenient, and we appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this matter. Our top priority is the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and everyone associated with our schools.
