RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES TECHNICIAN

Special Project for RISE (Riverside International Student Education department 100%)

TEMPORARY

This full-time temporary position is currently available at Access Brossard located at 7900 Taschereau Blvd., Brossard, for the international student services.

NATURE OF WORK:    The principal and customary work of an employee in this class of employment consists in organizing social, cultural and sports activities of all types mainly for groups (international students), considering their expectations as well as established policies either as a complement to certain educational programs or more often as recreation.

The technician will also be the communication channel between the department, agencies, host families and international students. 

CHARACTERISTIC FUNCTIONS: The employee in this class of employment participates in the preparation and implementation of sports and sociocultural activity programs, such as music, theatre, cinema, visual arts, exhibitions, sports tournaments and gymnastics.   

The employee participates in determining the activities; he or she prepares program schedules and ensures the smooth operation; explains the nature, objectives and regulations regarding activities; identifies abnormal situations and rectifies or reports them to the authorities according to established instructions.  

He or she uses facilitation techniques to assist groups in organizing and setting up leisure activities.  

The employee will be responsible for registering international students, and the reception of necessary documents for the registration, following the proper procedure.  The person will have to do a regular follow up with the host families and students.  At different time of the year, the agent will have to organize activities and accompany them at these outings.  The employee will also have to recruit new host families, visit them and make them sign all the necessary documentation.  Analyze the students’ and families’ profile in order to do the best match possible.

The employee is required to provide information, guide and direct students with respect to the various aspects of living in a host family.  Depending on the problems or situations encountered, he or she may be required to contact the school staff and, at times, parents/host families.

In keeping with the policy established, the employee may be responsible for information: publicity committee, bulletin, postings and news releases in newspapers or on the radio.  

He or she participates in selecting equipment and materials that the school board places at the disposal of groups and, in particular, takes into account the quality and cost of the equipment and makes appropriate recommendations to the authorities concerned. He or she oversees the maintenance of the equipment in the inventory and ensures its rational use. 

If need be, he or she performs any other related duty.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Hold a Diploma of College Studies in Community Recreation Leadership Training or a diploma or an attestation of studies recognized as equivalent by the competent authority.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:         

Have a thorough knowledge of office automation.

Excellent knowledge of English and French, spoken and written.

Strong collaboration and teamwork skills, flexibility, highly skilled in interpersonal interactions (with teenagers, an asset).

Excellent competence in problem solving.

The employee must have access to a vehicle as he or she will be required to visit schools and/or host families.

SCHEDULE:   Tuesday to Saturday 12:00PM to 8:00PM with a 60-minute meal break (FLEXIBLE SCHEDULE).

SALARY: $833.70 to $1078.70per 35-hour week, according to qualifications and experience
