Reminder in Case of School or Centre Emergency Closures
In the event of snowstorms or other severe weather conditions, we will post a closing notice before 6 a.m. if schools need to be closed, on our Facebook page, website and by sending an SMS Notification (No posting before 6 a.m. means schools are open). The decision to close schools is made collaboratively by the transporters, the Director General of the school board, and the school service centres in the region. At any time, parents have the final say and can decide whether to send their children to school if it remains open. Our schools will understand and acknowledge justified absences in these circumstances.
When we experience a power outage at our schools, we assess the situation and wait for Hydro to provide an estimated time for power restoration before making a decision about school operations. If the school becomes too cold or too dark to ensure a safe learning environment, we will close the school for the day.
In cases where a school or centre has power but no phone or internet service, please be assured that all our administrators carry cell phones and are available in case of an emergency. Student safety remains our top priority. If parents need to contact the school during such times for an emergency, you can reach the school board for assistance. Additionally, if your schedule changes, it is not a problem to arrive earlier at the school, and if late, our dedicated staff will always be there to take care of the students.
