Riverside School Board (RSB) is an English-language school board whose vast territory is located in Montérégie. We transport more than 9,000 elementary and secondary students daily to our schools and other educational institutions in the morning and afternoon. To do so, we use approximately one hundred vehicles, such as yellow school buses, minibuses, and berlines. More than 17,000 km are traveled every day by our vehicles.

The vast majority of students are transported on yellow school buses, but not all of them. Some students also travel on buses operated by the Réseau de transport de l’agglomération de Longueuil (RTL), whose routes are pre-established to serve our students.

Information about your school transportation:

Information about your child’s bus (number, stop, time) will be available on the Parent Portal* as of August 20, 2025.

*Procedure to connect to the Parent Portal.

Requests and questions:

The School Transportation Service handles all your requests and questions through our interactive platform.

In the event of an emergency requiring immediate attention concerning your child’s safety, please contact us by phone at 450-672-4010, extension 5080.

School transportation will be provided to students residing within the school’s attendance zone who meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Kindergarten students whose walking distance between their home and the school they attend is 0.8 km or more*
  • Elementary students whose walking distance between their home and the school they attend is 1.6 km or more*;
  • Secondary students whose walking distance between their home and the school they attend is 2.0 km or more*.

A student recognized by the School Board as having a valid reason due to a disability or difficulties related to adjustment or learning is also eligible for school transportation.

In order to ensure student safety, this transportation service is not intended to meet occasional, variable, or personalized needs. Its efficiency relies on being organized to meet the regular needs of all students eligible for transportation.

To learn more about the rules governing eligibility for school transportation, please consult the Policy on Transportation.

*The distance is determined by the shortest route from the student’s residence to the nearest access point on school property, using a public road or pedestrian pathway.
*The distance is measured using software recognized for this purpose by the School Transportation Services, based on the information available at the time of the official student registration period.

To ensure safe and enjoyable school transportation, rules of conduct and safety measures have been established. Compliance with these rules is a shared responsibility among parents, students, bus drivers, school transporters, school administration, and the School Board.

On school buses, the responsible adult is the bus driver. It is essential for everyone’s safety that children follow the driver’s instructions. If a child does not comply with certain instructions, they will receive a verbal warning. If the problem continues, the driver will file disciplinary reports, and the school administration will take the necessary actions. Consequences for not following the rules may include a one-day suspension from school transportation and, in some cases, permanent suspension for the rest of the school year. Transportation is a privilege, and students must demonstrate safe behavior in order to benefit from it.

Rules of conduct and safety measures to be respected

For more information, please consult the Policy on Transportation.

The Association du transport écolier du Québec (ATEQ) has produced eight excellent web videos on school bus safety. These videos are designed for children and serve as a great learning tool to promote safe behavior. Click on the logo below to watch the videos (available in French only).

mTransport is a mobile logistics solution that tracks students and vehicles, enhancing safety through better, more reliable communication among all transport stakeholders.

This tool lets the school board track vehicles in real time and share info with parents via a personalized app and tablets in vehicles, all to enhance student safety.

To report the loss of your child’s mTransport bus card, click here and complete the form. A new card will be issued to your child.

Eligible students will receive their OPUS card in the first days of the start of the school year. This OPUS card will already be loaded (paid) with a school pass with restriction
allowing them to use the RTL public transport service from Monday to Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., throughout the school year (excluding the holiday season, spring break and statutory holidays).

The cost of the OPUS card ($15) will be charged directly to parents on the 2025-2026 school supply invoice, unless there is notice of withdrawal or non-recovery of the OPUS card.

If parents wish, they will have the option to purchase the school pass without restriction, which will allow access to RTL lines at any time for the 10 months of the school year. This purchase can be made by going to the ticket office, following the reception of your new OPUS card.

To find out if your child is eligible for school transportation, parents can check the school transportation notice which will be posted in the Mozaik Parents portal as of August 22, 2025. If it says PUBLIC TRANSPORT, this means that your child’s school transportation will be on RTL buses and they will receive their new OPUS card at school at the start of the school year. In the event that the OPUS card could not be produced during the summer, the parents concerned will receive an email at the beginning of the August month to notify them of the procedure to obtain it at the ticket office.

To be eligible, the student must reside in the zone predetermined by Riverside school board.

Transport information for the 2025-2026 school year will be available on Mozaïk portal from August 22, 2025. If the type indicated is “PUBLIC TRANSPORT”, this means that your child will be transported with an RTL bus.

Instructions for connecting to Mozaïk parents.

It is essential that you inform the school of any change of address for your child, as transportation is planned based on information provided by parents.

Riverside school board offers eligible students a school restricted permit allowing them to use the RTL public transportation service from Monday to Friday, from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. from September 2, 2025, to June 30, 2026, excluding the holiday period – Spring break and public holidays. There are no fees for parents for a restrictive school pass.

At school:
OPUS cards and transport school tickets for students eligible for the school pass with restriction will be produced massively by the RTL during the summer period. To do this, Riverside School Board will send the RTL the required information concerning eligible students according to the data appearing in their file dated in June 2025. During the month of August, the school will receive the OPUS cards thus produced and will ensure distribution to students during the first days of school.

IMPORTANT: the $15 fee linked to the issuance of the OPUS card will be invoiced to parents by Riverside school board via the 2024-2025 school supply invoice, unless they have notified us of their withdrawal or if the students do not recover their OPUS card at school.

At the Ticket Counter:
A student who finds himself in one of the following situations must go to the Longueuil terminal ticket counter to obtain his OPUS card and his school transport pass with restriction:

  • The student for whom the RTL was unable to produce the OPUS card during the summer period (the parents of the students concerned will be notified by email).
  • The student who registered at school after June 17, 2025.

Before going to the ticket counter, the student must make an appointment on the RTL reservation platform by clicking here.

During their appointment, the student must ensure that they have in their possession the RTL eligibility certificate provided by the school and follow the RTL directives regarding the issuance of the OPUS card at a reduced rate for students. In particular, students who do not have an OPUS card must also present the duly completed Reduced Rate OPUS Card Form. The cost of the OPUS card is set at $15 at the ticket counter.

All the details relating to obtaining the OPUS card are available in the Student Zone section of the RTL website by clicking on this link.

Students who already hold an OPUS card on which other unused transport tickets are encoded can also go to the ticket office, by taking an appointment, in order to have the remaining tickets transferred to their new OPUS card.

Students eligible for an RTL school pass with restrictions also have the possibility of obtaining an RTL school pass WITHOUT restrictions allowing them access at any time to the RTL public transportation service upon payment of an extra fee, valid from September 2 to June 30, 2026. This amount is payable upon issue of the title regardless of its date of issue. This title is only offered at the ticket counter to holders of an RTL school certificate which will be given to the student at the start of the school year and who already have an RTL school pass with restriction on their OPUS card.

Before going to the ticket counter, the student must make an appointment using the RTL reservation platform by clicking here.

Please note that no refund will be issued to a student who has purchased an unrestricted student pass and wishes to cancel it during its validity period.

It is also not possible to purchase the unrestricted student pass on the Chrono mobile app. This pass can only be purchased at ticket offices.

The parent who wishes to withdraw from the public transportation service must complete the withdrawal form no later than September 4, 2025. Otherwise, the $15 fee related to the issuance of the OPUS card will automatically be invoiced to the parent. If the student has already received the OPUS card at the time of withdrawal, he or she must return it to the school.

The parent who withdraws will then be responsible for providing transportation for their child to and from school. No other school transportation service and no monetary allowance will be offered for the student who has withdrawn from the public transportation service.

To benefit from the RTL public transport service, all students must have their OPUS card encoded with the required transport ticket and respect at all times the standards, regulations and directives issued by the RTL which concern in particular the possession and use of transport tickets, as well as the safety and behavior of people on board vehicles. To find out about the standards and regulations in force, please consult the section of the RTL website.

To find out all the schedules and available public transport routes, please consult the RTL website.

To find out the school routes, integrated by school, click here.

If no integrated school line is available in your area for your child’s school, they must use the regular RTL lines.

*During the summer, the internet pages of the integrated school lines will be temporarily unavailable since they will not be in service. All information will be reinstated, up to date, during the month of August.

We also offer parents and students the option to sign up for RTL emergency alerts. Please note that RTL will continue to manage schedules and routes, which will always be handled through the Chrono app. These notifications will only inform you in the event of an emergency involving RTL and will advise you to check schedules or important messages on the RTL website.

Chrono – Application mobile – RTL

We recommend that any student who uses the public transport service read the J’Monte à bord! guide. This guide explains everything the student needs to know before making their first trips, as well as some distinctive safety concepts of the public transport bus compared to the school bus.

You must notify your child’s school office as soon as possible. The school will update the address in the computer system, and the new address will be automatically forwarded to the transportation services. Please allow at least two days from the time the transportation services receive the address change to assign a new bus route. However, please note that at the beginning of the school year, this process may take longer.

A parent of a child who does not meet the eligibility criteria for school transportation may submit a request for an available seat. This service may be provided when seats are available on the bus and when a bus stop is located near the student’s residence. No guarantee is offered regarding the availability of this service, which must be considered an annual privilege. The request must be renewed each year.

Please note that a fee will be charged to every student who has been granted an available seat.

  • September to June 2025–2026: $200 fee
  • February to June 2026: $100 fee
  • September to June 2026–2027: $225 fee
  • February to June 2027: $120 fee
  • Third child: no additional fee

School transportation requests for the upcoming school year will be accepted starting in March and will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Requests received before July 1 will be processed on the first day of school. Requests received between July 1 and October 5 will be processed no later than mid-October. Requests received after October 5 will be processed within 10 days.

Should these seats no longer be available due to new enrollments or changes to bus routes, the School Transportation Service will determine which students will no longer be transported. The School Transportation Service will notify the school and the parents and will issue a prorated refund to the parents.

No bus stop will be added, and bus routes will not be extended or modified to accommodate these students. Bus arrival and departure times must be respected and will not be changed to accommodate these students.

For additional information and to submit a transportation request, you must use our interactive platform.

Note: A maximum of two addresses is allowed at the same time for the same period.

A student in a shared custody arrangement who is eligible for school transportation may benefit from dual transportation service if both residences are located within the school’s designated area.

Please inform your child’s school office of the second address so that the school can update the student’s record, indicating whether transportation is requested for this address.

Note: A maximum of two addresses is allowed at the same time for the same period.

It is possible to add an alternative address to the student’s record (family member, guardian, etc.) if transportation to this address is used regularly and for an extended period.

Approved changes are only on a regular basis. One-time changes (visiting a friend, vacations, etc.) will not be approved. School transportation is intended solely to transport students between home and school, and it is the parents’ responsibility to arrange transportation in unusual situations.

No bus stop will be added, and bus routes will not be extended or modified to accommodate these students. Bus arrival and departure times must be respected and will not be changed to accommodate these students.

Parents must submit a request to the School Transportation Service through the interactive platform on the school board’s website. Submitting a request does not guarantee its approval.

Note: A maximum of two addresses is allowed at the same time for the same period.

For preschool students aged 4 and 5, a parent must be present during boarding in the morning and unloading in the afternoon when using school transportation.

However, a parent of a preschool child who is unable to be present at the bus stop at the time specified by the School Board may submit a parental exemption request so that their child who is eligible for transportation may be supervised by another responsible person.

Please note that, in the absence of an exemption, the preschool child will, under all circumstances, be returned to the school’s daycare service if the parent is not present at the bus stop at the time of drop-off in the afternoon.

For additional information and to submit a parental exemption request for a preschool student, you must use our interactive platform.

Bus stops are determined by the Riverside School Board and are generally located at street intersections. However, in rural areas and in order to ensure student safety, stops may be made directly in front of the child’s home.

Whenever possible, kindergarten students have a maximum walking distance of 0.4 km between the nearest access point to their property and the bus stop.

Whenever possible, elementary and secondary school students have a maximum walking distance of 0.8 km between the nearest access point to their property and the bus stop.

Although the school transportation service rarely relocates bus stops, a parent of a student eligible for school transportation may nevertheless submit a request for a stop change if there is a valid reason and the location of the stop is deemed unsafe.

The following reasons will not be
considered valid grounds for requesting a change of bus stop:

  • Having obtained an available spot.
  • Having an alternative address.
  • The bus passes in front of the student’s residence.
  • The stop is different from the previous year.
  • There is a stop sign closer to the student’s home.
  • The parent is unable to accompany their child to the stop.
  • The parent is unable to see their child at the stop from their home.
  • There is no sidewalk.

For additional information and to submit a request for a bus stop change for a valid reason, please use our interactive platform.

You will be informed by email of any service disruption or delay as soon as the transportation service becomes aware of it.

Parents of students with special transportation needs due to a medical condition should contact their school. The school will coordinate with the transportation service to review the situation and implement any necessary accommodations.

Parents of students eligible for school transportation who wish to decline the service should notify us through our interactive platform.
