HIGH SCHOOL PARENTS:

At St. Johns School, we are dedicated to ensuring the academic success and well-being of all our students. With this in mind, we are reminding you of our school’s policy regarding justifying student absences.

It has come to our attention that there have been instances where absences are being justified when they should not be. We want to emphasize that when a student is absent from class during school hours, it is essential that the absence is appropriately accounted for. Justified absences, whether they are for medical appointments, family emergencies, or other valid reasons, must be handled as outlined below:

1. We kindly remind you to justify an absence that will take place during school hours, by entering that absence in Mozaik well before the student’s absence or early departure.

2. Please remember that students must also be signed out by an authorized adult prior to an early departure. Absences should not be justified retroactively after the fact. This allows us to maintain accurate attendance records to ensure the safety and well-being of our students.

3. Skipping class or leaving school grounds without authorization is not acceptable behavior. We understand that there may be exceptional circumstances where a student may feel the need to miss class or an urgent appointment comes up, but these situations must be approved by administration. As partners in your child’s education, we urge you to support our efforts in promoting a culture of responsibility and accountability regarding attendance. As such, should a student choose to skip class, consequences may include lunchtime detentions, in school suspension, or out of school suspension.

4. We remind you that regular school attendance is fundamental to academic success and personal growth.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding our attendance policy, please do not hesitate to contact school administration. Your cooperation and understanding are greatly appreciated.
