Below you will find explanations on who we are, who we represent, what we do and when and how to get connected.
ACSSSN is a committee made up of RSB staff and elected parent volunteers. Our current committee is comprised of seven RSB representatives made up of a teacher, principal, non-teaching professional staff, the director and assistant director of complementary services and eight parents of special needs students.
As parents, we represent all parents of students with special needs, either at the primary school level, secondary level, kindergarten, or at REACH. The students we represent on this committee have special needs ranging from ADHD to learning disabilities, autism, spectrum disorders, intellectual disabilities, speech and language disorders and sensory and physical challenges.
Our role is to provide information on resources concerning the implementation of services for students with special needs, as well as to provide support for parents. Our meetings provide us the opportunity to learn more about the Complementary services and the range of services it provides. In turn, we are able to share information with parents in our circles of influence more broadly.
This year one of big goals was to create these web pages. It is a work in progress, and our intention is to post helpful information here as well as links to other organizations and sites that could be beneficial to parents of special needs students.
We meet five times over the course of the school year at the administration Center of the Riverside School Board, 7525 chemin de Chambly, Saint-Hubert. We are open to the public and offer 10 minutes of open floor time for any questions or comments that you may wish to share with us. Please note that specific individual issues cannot be addressed at these meetings. Only issues that affect the special needs community as a whole are addressed.
We wish you all the best in your child's academic endeavors with Riverside School board!
